METRONET – Leake Street Underpass, Bayswater Station.
Client: PTA WA.
Completion November 2023
The rich and layered designs and murals of local flora, fauna and history will transform the walls and ceilings of the Leake Street underpass.
There are 5 elements to this commission;
A. 40 x 2.4m montage produced on aluminium panels lining one of the walls inside the underpass
B. 40 x 2.4m painted mural on the opposite wall inside the underpass
C. Three hand-painted murals lead into the underpass.
The montage is produced using ‘Stratisart’, my layering approach. It comprises monoprints created by the students from Bayswater Primary School during a day workshop I conducted, my drypoint etchings, lino prints and monoprints of flora and fauna found along the Swan River, and historical photos of Bayswater. The montage is designed to be of continual interest to the pedestrians using the underpass, with something new to discover with each viewing. In addition, the underpass is frequented by many primary school students. As the artist, it is exciting to imagine them looking for and finding their artwork within the montage.
The 4 murals take graphic elements from the primary artwork to produce stand-alone artwork. Selecting the exterior wall paint colours around the underpass was part of the commission.
Sunshine Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre, Victoria
Emily’s objective was to produce positive, creative, aesthetically calming works of art that relay a message, encourage a sense of tranquillity or contemplation, simulate thoughts and conversation, raise awareness, and connect patients, employees and visitors to Sunshine Mental Health & Wellbeing Centre.
The artworks take viewers on a journey through parts of Victoria from the Brimbank Park, along the Werribee River, to the Organ Pipes and The Kororoit Creek below Mount Kororoit and the Lerderderg State Park, Wilson’s Prom and the Macedon Ranges. Incorporating the land and waterways, the biodiversity of Victoria and the surrounding land of the Sunshine area.

“Talented local artists chosen for art banner project.
Two talented local artists have been selected for the Main Street Art Banner project, in which they both celebrate the uniqueness of our natural environment in their artwork.
This exciting project strives to create a strong and vibrant sense of place for Margaret River town centre and recognises the endemic flora and fauna of the region.
There are 14 banner posts (two banners per post) that run along the Margaret River town centre on Bussell Highway.
Emily Jackson’s set of three designs which extend over two banners, include incredible bursts of colour and feature the vulnerable forest red-tailed black cockatoo and hooded plover.
